Google Drive filesize different than QNap destination but files are unchanged

Post by jheltzer »

I am backing up from Google Drives to a QNAP NAS. I've used the slower but more reliable method of file compare.

I have a large number of files that are showing zero filesize on Google Drive but have a non-zero filesize on the destination NAS. The file date time is the same. Snycback everynight is copying over these files since it detects a change, but I haven't touched any of these files. There are also examples of a non-zero filesize on both the source and destination that don't match on files I haven't updated. The files are not corrupted, I can open them fine in Google Drive.

Have others encountered a similar issue where syncback is pulling errant filesizes off of Google Drive? I think it's the same files every night that get caught in this issue.

Thank you!

Google Drive doesn't charge storage for native file types, like .doc for instance, hence "zero" file size indicated. Also .doc is proprietary and can't be downloaded as such. It's generally converted to M$ Word Doc, .docx. You simply can't compare the 2 (even though they're actually the same!) unless all the native Google file types are stored on Drive as M$, or non Google (there is an option in settings to Not convert), file types which then count against your storage quota!
