Can not backup windows dns files.

Post by ozgurerdogan »

On windows server 2016, I am trying to backup C:\Windows\System32\dns but it does not detect/see/backup and files within directory. File are domain.com.dns format. Whatever I do, I can not backup them. Is this a bug or am I missing something?

Hi,

Please note that SyncBackPro is 32-bit application and your Windows server 2016 might be 64-bit. The problem is 64-bit versions of Windows will try to silently redirect access to %windir%\System32 folder to a different folder %windir%\SysWOW64 as per this KB article:

http://support.2brightsparks.com/knowle ... unexpected

This could be the reason why dns folder and its content were not visible, as Windows redirected Pro to look in C:\Windows\SysWOW64\ folder instead.
You can try the workarounds explained in the above KB article and experiment to see which option works for you.

But the best method is to force the use of VSS in your profile configuration, which you can enable under:

Modify > Expert > Copy/Delete > Advanced > Copy all files in Source from the shadow volume (snapshot)

Bear in mind if you use the SysNative alias, you must disable the use of VSS (in this case SyncBackPro can't copy open/locked files) as stated in the KB article above.

Thank you.

Thanks a lot. I spent lots of hour but simply changing C:\Windows\System32\Dns to %windir%\Sysnative\Dns\ solved the issue.
