All the problems I was experiencing with SyncBackPro x64 V8.5.5.0 have disappeared now that I've uninstalled it and installed the 32-bit V8.5.5.0 instead. I can cancel the global settings dialogue, import profiles and the compressed backup works.
Still got the "Upgrade Assurance" advert in the status bar though!
