Major Failure - last 24 hours - OneDrive for Business

Post by morles »

implemented SyncBackPro in November in 2x sites to sync files servers to OneDrive for Business. Syncing large +100,000 files, ~2TB every 30 minutes (unattended) at each site

its been working very for + 6 weeks until yesterday ~10am (GMT +8 AEST). My worst fears. SyncBackPro latest version 8.5.17.0 started randomly "Delete from left" significant amounts of data from the 2x files servers. +25,000 files, 150GB before i could stop it.

The data remains intact on "OneDrive for Business" .. and yet SyncBackPro has deleted it from the file server. Our links are quite slow, so copying back from OneDrive will take days. i have used shadow copies and local backup to locally restore critical files for the client for now. it's obviously messy handling changes.

It's quite possible a Microsoft / OneDrive API issue. where they might incorrectly reporting the file gone.. but it hasnt happen on our QNAP OneDrive sync as far as im aware

So, im not sure where to go from here :( i have started new Profiles and running them (10 hours to scan) .. the results look odd too. bit more unexpected "delete from left" but hard to tell.

anyone else experiencing this MAJOR issue?

This happens regularly! i've been running SyncBackPro manually ever since this... and it just happened with a manual attended run.

If OneDrive for Business is very, very busy (during a work day) - SyncBackPro will incorrectly think the OneDrive folders are empty and start deleting slabs of "left" data??

it needs to fail more gracefully than that!! HELP!!
