Changes on a Sharefolder

Post by Rousseau »

Hi,

I have many profiles using the trigger "Changes". Those profiles use a Sharefolder on a server as a source \\servername\foldername\. It works but if the server have to be reboot to install windows update, Syncback never detect the changes. We have to manually run those profiles for the first time. Synback will detect changes until we have to reboot the sever. Is there a way I can fix this issue?

Thank you.

Hi,

Note that SyncBack must be running in the background for the OnChanges trigger to work. Therefore, if you make changes to files when SyncBack is not running (or user is logged off, PC is shutdown etc.,) then those changes will not detected and are not backed up to destination. This is an important point to consider when using When, Changes setting. So, you may have to enable When > Login/Logout setting or configure the profile to run periodically via the Windows Task Scheduler (or When > Periodically option) to backup those missing files to destination.

I suggest reading the help file for the important points to take note when using When > Changes setting. With When > Changes settings page opened, press F1 to open the contextual help.

Thank you

Hi Swapna,

Thank you for your reply. I understand that Syncback is not a services and need to run in background and all changes made when Syncback is down will not be detected. When I said reboot, I meant the server where the shared folder are located not the server where Synback is installed. It seems like Syncback loose the track of the shared folder and need to be run manually (or by task scheduler). Should I understand that it is an expected bahavior?

Hi,

We conducted some tests on our end, but we couldn’t reproduce your issue.

SyncBackPro running on a client PC is monitoring for changes on the remote Windows 10 computer. After rebooting the source computer, SyncBack detected changes and ran the profile automatically. So, I suspect the problem is specific to your Windows server. Can you please let us know the version of Windows you are using on Source and Client PCs?

Thank you.

Hi,

Actually, SyncBackPro is installed on a Windows 7 (32 bit) and the source is a Windows Server 2012. But I am able to reproduce this behavior with the same client PC (Win 7) and Windows 10 as Source PC. After reboot Source Pc, if I open I file Explorer and navigate to the shared folder (\\Servername\SharedFolder\), Syncback will detect the next changes. For now, I will simply add a task scheduler for those profiles.

Thank you for your help.
Have good day,
