Estimated time left for cloud backups??

Post by adr »

Just upgraded from v7 to v8 so I could use B2 as a backup destination, and am a bit surprised to see "Estimated time left: unknown" when the profile I'm running gets to the upload phase!

Syncback obviously knows how much data it has to transfer, and since it's giving me stats on the amount of data uploaded and a current transfer rate, I'm not sure why there is not an actual estimate of the time remaining as it should be simple to calculate from the available information...

Would this be possible to add in a future version? Obviously it's only going to be an estimate, but when I'm uploading a lot of data on a relatively slow home broadband connection it's nice to know roughly how many hours/days it's going to take to complete!

OK, after trying another profile I see it does actually give me an estimated time remaining now, great. The only relevant difference I can think of between the two profiles is that the first one uses the "put everything into a single zip file" option - is there some sort of side-effect of having the long compression phase before the upload starts that is causing the estimated time remaining to go missing?

Hi,

Probably, it is slow at compressing files/folders on Source to a single zip file. Can you continue running the profile and see if SyncBack calculates and displays the correct estimated time near the progress bar?

In addition, please note that when backing-up files to a cloud server, we suggest using multi-zip compression instead of single-zip compression (as single-zip compression is very slow). More details here:
