Integrity Check Feature

Post by Davidi »

Hello :-)

I have some questions about the Integrity Check Feature that I am hoping someone can help me out with. I have tried to search but I have not been able to find a good answer.

A little background...I have some profiles that are setup to backup the contents of some folders. I want to enable the Integrity Check feature for these profiles. Since I have already been using these profiles before Integrity Check, the data already exists on the destination/right. Here are my questions regarding the existing data...

1. If I select "Enable file integrity recording for destination/right", is it just calculating the hash based on the files that are already on the destination/right without calculating the hash for the files on the source/left and comparing them to each other?

2. If 1 is true, then how do I know the backup is indeed good (and not corrupted) if Syncback is not comparing the hash of both files?

3. If 1 is true, how do I tell Syncback to compare the files that are on the destination/right with the source/left files? Would I have to enable "Enable file integrity recording for source/left" as well?

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi,

Integrity Check option compares the hash value of a backup file with its hash value stored in the integrity database (created in the previous runs), to ensure the backup is valid and unaltered. But, if you want SyncBack to compare the hash value of source file with destination file (at the time of backup) and ensure they are identical then you should enable the option ‘Verify that files are copied correctly’ under:

Modify > Expert > Copy/Delete settings page

For additional details on Verification and Integrity Check, please refer to 'Data integrity' article:

Thank you.
