Copy Job with Date Restrictions

Post by bwquestion »

Hey all,

Sorry if this comes up duplicated. I posted an hour ago and it does not show anywhere as posted. I think this post may be worded better than the first one was.

I have a server that has a file archive that gets added to when users add new files, but nothing is ever removed. This is D:\File_Archive. I have a USB drive attached to the server. I would like to do two things:

First (one time) - Copy all directories and files that are less than 1096 days old (3 years - modified date) to the USB drive.

Second (daily) - Delete all files and empty directories from the USB that are over 1095 days (older than 3 years - modified date) then copy any new files that have been added to the D:\File_Archive since the last time the job ran.

This would basically allow the original file archive to grow as large as the server can hold, but keep the USB drive limited to the current 3 years of files.

Can this be done?

Hi,

First (one time) - Copy all directories and files that are less than 1096 days old (3 years - modified date) to the USB drive.

To back up files created or modified within the last 1096 days, you can use the setting

Ignore files that [have/have not]
been modified and/or created [within the last] XX [seconds/minutes/hours/days/weeks/months/years] OR [since] [calendar date][calendar time]

under:

Modify Profile > Expert Mode > Compare Options > Date & Time settings page

For additional details, on this setting please refer to this forum post:

Second (daily) - Delete all files and empty directories from the USB that are over 1095 days (older than 3 years - modified date)

You can create a 'Housekeeping' profile in SyncBack to delete older files from destination based on their last modification (or creation) date/time stamps. Please read this forum post for more details:

Thank you.
