Moving to a new hard drive

Post by dcooper000 »

I have recently installed a new hard drive on my laptop (replaced old smaller one). I am now reinstalling SyncBackSE. Is there a configuration file that I can copy from the old hard drive so that I do not have to reconfigure my entire backup set ?

Hi,

If you have a copy of your profiles then you can simply import them after re-installing SyncBackSE. This KB article provides you with the steps to export/import your profiles:

Thank you.

Unfortunately the hard drive with the old Profiles is not booted on a computer. Is there another way (i.e. are there any specific files I can copy over from the old hard drive) ?

Hi,

SyncBack by default store profiles in user’s private local Application Data folder. Please read this KB article for the default location where profile files are stored:

http://support.2brightsparks.com/knowle ... are-stored

So please try searching in that default location for ‘live’ profile files (e.g. ProfileName_Settings.ini, ProfileName_Logs.ini, ProfileName_DSetting.ini, database files etc.,) or for files that end with .SPS (which is a single zip container of profile files).

Note that SyncBackSE V7 (by default) performs an automatic backup of your profiles when the program exits (if the option “Backup all profiles when the program exits” under Preferences > options > Expert page is enabled) and save them in the ‘Profiles Backup’ sub-folder where live profile files are stored. These backups are stored on week day folders and saved on a rotational basis. Therefore, it is possible to find profiles in them with settings which may be slightly older or not up-to-date. But if you can find .SPS files then you can simply import them in SyncBackSE on the new drive. Alternatively, if you are able to find live profile files, then you can copy those files from old drive to the users local Application Data folder on the new drive.

If you need further assistance, then please submit a support ticket to [email protected]

Thank you.
