Windows Task Scheduler Failing?

SyncBackFree is the freeware version of SyncBack. It is *not* an evaluation version of SyncBackPro/SE.

Hello,
I'm starting this topic again because I'm having the same problem: Win11 + SB11 = no scheduled tasks work.
I have scheduled tasks to download backups from several websites (FTP to my PC) several times a day.

This is a new PC with W11, before this I had W10 and SB11 and I had no problems with my scheduled tasks.

On my new PC I just installed SB11 and imported my profile files, which imported without a hitch, but when I run a scheduled task I (sometimes) get the error popup, just like you, but more importantly I have NO files downloaded from FTP on my PC.

I've checked the local group policy editor as mentioned in the help file, as well as a whole bunch of other parameters mentioned there, but nothing helps, it just won't work.

I uninstalled SB11 and reinstalled version 10.2.122.0 (the latest free version available) using this function:

Code: Select all

winget install 2BrightSparks.SyncBackFree --version 10.2.122.0
Found here: https://help.2brightsparks.com/support/solutions/articles/43000707808-installing-old-versions-using-winget

And I repeated all my tests.
But it still doesn't work
I also noticed that with V10 the scheduled tasks in the Windows scheduler were configured for Win7.

My Windows session does have a password, which is the correct one entered in SB, all the rights in the various Windows policies have been checked...
I checked from the windows task scheduler too...

Has anyone been able to find a solution to this problem?
It was still very practical to have these scheduled tasks because the PC could be in standby mode during the day, the scheduled tasks would wake it up, then it would go back into standby mode, etc...

Now I have to use the periodicity function, which forces me to disable the PC's standby mode...

Please help me [-o<

Hey David,

In Task Scheduler you might want to double-check the “Conditions” tab of your task and make sure the “Wake the computer to run this task” box is checked (or maybe even delete the old task and create a new one from inside SyncBack).

You might also check the "Allow wake timers" under Windows power settings, and see if it's enabled (I don't have Win11, but I'm assuming the settings are the same).

Those are the only two possibilities that jump to mind

One last thing

Between my version tests, I restarted my PC to complete the uninstallation, and my session was blocked even though the password I typed in was correct.
Except that this lock was due to a password error.

I wonder if entering the session password to activate the task in SB doesn't cause this error... Just a hint
Up. I have the same question.

I am new to this forum so apologies for any errors. My computer adviser installed and set up SyncBackFree several years ago and set up a schedule to run the back up every night at 9.00 p.m. This worked perfectly until I was advised to run an update (I think the one before last). Ever since, the automatic backup doesn't run and I get an error message that there is a problem with the Windows scheduler. There is a link to a help[ file but it is completely beyond me.
The program works fine if I run it manually.
Can someone please help by giving an dummy's step by step guide to resolving this problem. I'm still using Windows 7 (I know I should upgrade but my pc is old and I like Windows 7)
Thanks

The information you provide really needs to quote the exact error you are seeing.

As a guess I will ask if you can determine if in fact the profile did run successfuly?
If you see that it did and you got the pop-up error "Task Scheduler failing to run profile" then I suggest you select the option in the pop-up "Do not prompt me again".

"If, for any reason, a profile fails to run as scheduled, the Scheduler Monitor service will generate a notification to inform you about the issue. To prevent further notifications from the Scheduler Monitor, you have the option to select the "Do not prompt me again" checkbox on the notification window. By doing so, the Scheduler Monitor service will refrain from alerting you in the future, even in cases of valid failures in running scheduled tasks."

Hello,
I apologize for my late reply.
Due to various problems I left this problem aside but I'm coming back to it.

To make sure I've done everything right, I've formatted my PC and installed Windows 11 Pro in order to access the local security policy and check the points mentioned in the Scheduling Problems help section. And all is well (my account is administrator on this PC).

I grouped my individual tasks into a group (so as to have only one scheduled task to manage) and set up a scheduled task in administrator mode on it: a trigger from November 09 2023 at 00:15, then every 4 hours. My PC goes to sleep with the default settings, i.e. after 15 minutes.

Every day at 00:15 my PC wakes up and the task runs without a hitch, but nothing happens every 4 hours. No wake up and therefore no triggering.

However, if I wake up the PC, the unexecuted task runs immediately.

Note that my session has a password, as recommended by the software, and is validated when the task is configured.

What could be the cause of this?

I've attached screenshots of my settings

Thank you for your help

I can't edit my previous post, but I checked Windows power settings and "Allow wake timers" is enabled :

At this point (unless someone else has a suggestion) I'd try going to SyncBack support with this issue. Unfortunately, this maybe a deeper problem that only they can fix.

Hi David,

"Wake the computer to run the task" is a part of Task Scheduler, not SyncBack. However, there are scenarios where this option might not operate as expected due to factors like outdated or incompatible device drivers, BIOS settings affecting power management and wake timers, and other potential reasons.

1. Create a simple test task directly in the Task Scheduler and observe whether it successfully wakes the computer as intended when the PC enters sleep mode.
2. Check the Windows Event Viewer for any associated errors or warnings that may offer insights into why the task is failing to wake the computer.
3. Alternatively, you can configure the scheduled task to run only when the user is logged in.

Thanks.

Hello Swapna

It's new configuration and all drivers and BIOS are up to date.

I will try to create a new task in task scheduler.

Hello,
I'm coming back to this problem with perhaps a solution, or at least an alternative.

After my latest tests I've come to the conclusion that there was a problem with the exit of the sleep mode on the recurrence of a task.

To remedy this I edited the task created by SyncBack Free in the Windows Task Scheduler, removed the recurrence, and set several trigger times for this same task.

I've been testing this for several days now, and the PC wakes up from standby to launch the task.

What specific triggers have you set for the task in the Windows Task Scheduler, and have you observed any improvements in the wake-up behavior since making these changes?
