All file names ae "0" with no file extension

All file names ae "0" with no file extension
Performed a back up in March. All the files from that backup were renamed "0" and there was no file extension on them. I attempted a restore but that did not restore the files to original. I'm apparently doing something wrong and don't know what to do.
