Decisions for files and folders

SyncBackFree is the freeware version of SyncBack. It is *not* an evaluation version of SyncBackPro/SE.

Decisions for files and folders

Post by wrangler »

I have used MS SyncToy more than 6 years, and am trying SyncBack Free now on Windows 10. While I was setting up a profile that can be used to sync my personal data between my laptop and desktop, the "Decision - files and folders" options look a bit confusing to me.

In my application, if I delete a file from Left/Source or Right/Destination, I hope a sync software to be able to recognize a recently deleted file and to delete the same file wherever it is located (i.e. Left or Right). Likewise, if there is a new file created, I want it to be just copied to the other side. But, I cannot find such options from the "Decisions-Files" tab of SyncBack Free. How can I do this? This was quite safely done for SyncToy.

Also when I select "Automatic" for "folders" under the "Synchronize" type setting, does it use the Intelligent Synchronization option copied from Help below? I guess it is what I also want for "files" no matter where the files are located. I think that is what most users want when we select the "Synchronize" type.

Intelligent Synchronization: Folders only in the source/left will be created in the destination/right, and vice-versa. However, if a folder was deleted from the source/left then it will be deleted from the destination/right, and vice-versa.

Thank you, and look forward to hearing from you soon.

The BasicSync profile in SyncBackFree is different from the Intelligent Synchronization profile available in SyncBackSE/Pro. BasicSync does not keep a database to remember which files are deleted or changed on either side like Intelligent Synchronization does. Please read this forum post for more details: ... 967#p46967

If you want you can test with SyncBackSE/Pro, which we offer a free 30-day evaluation. You can download and install latest version of SyncBackSE/Pro from here:

If you do decide to purchase, the serial number will convert the 'trial' to the 'registered' version.

Thank you.
