Encrypt files with accents or special characters

SyncBackFree is the freeware version of SyncBack. It is *not* an evaluation version of SyncBackPro/SE.

Encrypt files with accents or special characters

Post by jfneuch »

Hello,
As I am french, I have several files with accens (é,è,ê..). When I make a backup with encrypted file, the file's name is changed. When I restore, some file a unreadable.
How to backup file with accens, so that the restoration of the files is like the originals ?
Thanks a lot to everyone who can help me.
Kind Regards
Jean

Hi,

You haven’t stated the version of SyncBackFree you are using, and the profile’s source and destination locations (e.g. FTP, NAS drive etc.,) to better understand the issue? However, I can provide some information which may be useful to you.

Please note that SyncBack is fully Unicode, but your destination device may not be. Probably, it is changing the filenames (with Unicode characters) after they are transferred to the destination, hence the issue. Please read this KB article for additional details if your destination is an FTP server:

http://support.2brightsparks.com/knowle ... p-transfer

If you wish you can copy the same files (with Unicode characters) to a local drive (where SyncBack is running) to see if you can reproduce the problem? But before running the test, please ensure that you are using the latest version of SyncBackFree (V7.6.64.0). If required, you can download and install SyncBackFree from here:

http://www.2brightsparks.com/assets/sof ... _Setup.exe

Do not uninstall and reinstall, or you'll lose your profiles & settings. Just install 'over the top'.

Thank you.
