SyncBackFree is compressing files when I don't want it to!

SyncBackFree is the freeware version of SyncBack. It is *not* an evaluation version of SyncBackPro/SE.

SyncBackFree is compressing files when I don't want it to!

Post by friedbadger »

I have just downloaded the latest version of SyncBackFree (v8.5.75.0) and created two profiles for backing up my photos (onto a FreeNAS server).
Since they are all jpg (and other compressed formats) I don't want them zipped up. I have checked that the compression option is not enabled [Checkbox Compress the files on right into a zip file -- is __not__ checked].
However all the files are zipped so I see filenames like "filename1.jpg.zip" (which, of course, are bigger than the original).
This is doubly bad since I had already copied many of the files so I get two files for every picture.

How can I stop it zipping the files?

Hi,

Sorry, I can’t reproduce your issue.

The profile with Compression option disabled, copied JPG files as-is from source to destination. Can you please export and send those 2 profiles (select the profile > right click > Export Profile) to [email protected] for investigation?

Do not post (nor link) profiles on this open forum.

Thank you.

Thanks for your reply. I think this is partly my fault. On reexamining the profiles I saw that the source and destination directories were the same. I'm sure that I did set them correctly originally. Therefore there may be two problems here:

1. Source directories can change on their own.
2. Behaviour if source and destination directories are the same is illogical.

I have edited the profiles and they seem to work now (with the correct source directories).
