Cannot run SB manually, only scheduled

SyncBackFree is the freeware version of SyncBack. It is *not* an evaluation version of SyncBackPro/SE.

Sounds like this is the double click setting. If you look under preferences (V8), burger menu->Global Settings (v9) you should find the options for what to do when a profile is double clicked, it sounds like you have it set to schedule a profile whereas you want to have set to run.
