Errors during backup

SyncBackFree is the freeware version of SyncBack. It is *not* an evaluation version of SyncBackPro/SE.

Errors during backup

Post by watson69 »

Following is one of 63 errors when backing up my user account (Win 10-64 bit).
Failed to copy from Source : File is locked (C:\Users\xxxxxx\ntuser.dat.LOG1): The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process

Another error message: Failed to copy from Source : File is locked (C:\Users\xxxxxx\AppData\Local\Packages\5A894077.McAfeeSecurity_wafk5atnkzcwy\Settings\settings.dat.LOG2): The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process

How do I stop these processes and avoid errors, or does it matter? SyncBack Free reports "Failure" of backup due to errors.

SyncBackFree cannot copy locked/open files. You must either exclude those files from your backup or stop any programs that keep the files locked/open prior starting the backup.

In your case you may be able to eliminate your errors by ticking Compare Options > Attributes settings page the option 'Do not copy system files'.

Also, SyncBack is not designed to backup your whole system, rather it is good at backing up user files.
