Windows Task Scheduler Failing?

SyncBackFree is the freeware version of SyncBack. It is *not* an evaluation version of SyncBackPro/SE.

Windows Task Scheduler Failing?

Post by hoopster714 »

I upgraded to ver 11 and now keep getting pop up messages saying the windows task scheduled failed to run. I followed prior links in the forum and the service is running and my username is allowed where it is supposed to. Not sure what changed.

I noticed in this link with instructions: On the Log On tab, make sure that the local system account is selected, and that the Allow service to interact with desktop check box has a check mark.

The check box does not allow me to check anything.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

I'm having the same issue but it appears that the scheduled task completes without error. Are your tasks actually not running or just being reported as such?

SyncBackFree displaying "Task Scheduler failing to run profile" but profile completes with no problem. The profile runs unattended everyday but the error doesn't happen everyday and only started since SyncBackFree V11 was installed.

SyncBackFree V11.0.0.15 (32-bit) running on Windows 11 (also occuring on another pc running Windows 10).

"SyncBackFree

The Windows Task Scheduler is failing to run the following SyncBackFree profiles:

Misc Folder Mirror to HP Drive E Misc Folder

Click Help for more information."

This profile is in a Group and is the last profile in the Group. On a different pc the profile is not in a Group but has the same problem.

That's the same behavior I see. The task runs every day but the error message seems random. Never saw the error message on previous SyncBack versions running the exact same task. Errors began with version 11.

Does the profile you're having trouble with have a program that executes before the profile runs? For me, the error message only appears on the two profiles I have that run a program first.

No, to the above question.

The only thing I see in common so far is the 2 pc's that have the problem are connecting through my local area network for the destination.
I also have a third pc that runs the same scheduled mirror profile to the same drive but the drive is internal on this pc and the problem has never happened.

I have the same problem since version 11. The profiles also connecting through my local area network for the destination. With version 10 all is good. It seems that version 11 contains a bug in this area.

7/27/23 Updated from V11.0.0.15 (32-bit) to newest release V11.0.0.25 (32-bit). Will see if the problem goes away.

Just wanted to jump on the train here. I just updated to V11 as well and am having the same issue on two PC's that are connected to Synology Disk Stations via a Ubiquiti home network.

Like the others it seems that everything is working properly (files backed up etc.) but that annoying little pop-up is there every morning when I wake up and log on.

Not all my profiles are noted as failed which ones and the number of profiles flagged varies day to day on both devices. Sync Back Pro (freeware version) says all backups succeeded as does the task scheduler itself. I have validated the files as well and they are correctly backed up.

Looks like it is working but i have never seen this little pop-up before.

Hello,

I submitted a ticket with support and this was the response:

"The notification you received is from the Scheduler Monitor service. Scheduler Monitor service is a Windows service that is installed with SyncBack V11. This service works alongside SyncBack to identify any profiles that haven't been executed by the Windows Task Scheduler at their designated date and time.

If, for any reason, a profile fails to run as scheduled, the Scheduler Monitor service will generate a notification to inform you about the issue. To prevent further notifications from the Scheduler Monitor, you have the option to select the "Do not prompt me again" checkbox on the notification window. By doing so, the Scheduler Monitor service will refrain from alerting you in the future, even in cases of valid failures in running scheduled tasks."

I read that as "it's a feature not a bug". Unless they implement a different system, it seems the only way to "fix" these notifications is to disable them.

After my observations i have come to the same conclusion. It's a feature from the new Scheduler Monitor and not a bug. But how can i enable the Scheduler Monitor later again?

I found it. Here you can find more information about the activation and deactivation of the Scheduler Monitor:

Hello,
I'm starting this topic again because I'm having the same problem: Win11 + SB11 = no scheduled tasks work.
I have scheduled tasks to download backups from several websites (FTP to my PC) several times a day.

This is a new PC with W11, before this I had W10 and SB11 and I had no problems with my scheduled tasks.

On my new PC I just installed SB11 and imported my profile files, which imported without a hitch, but when I run a scheduled task I (sometimes) get the error popup, just like you, but more importantly I have NO files downloaded from FTP on my PC.

I've checked the local group policy editor as mentioned in the help file, as well as a whole bunch of other parameters mentioned there, but nothing helps, it just won't work.

I uninstalled SB11 and reinstalled version 10.2.122.0 (the latest free version available) using this function:

Code: Select all

winget install 2BrightSparks.SyncBackFree --version 10.2.122.0
Found here: https://help.2brightsparks.com/support/solutions/articles/43000707808-installing-old-versions-using-winget

And I repeated all my tests.
But it still doesn't work
I also noticed that with V10 the scheduled tasks in the Windows scheduler were configured for Win7.

My Windows session does have a password, which is the correct one entered in SB, all the rights in the various Windows policies have been checked...
I checked from the windows task scheduler too...

Has anyone been able to find a solution to this problem?
It was still very practical to have these scheduled tasks because the PC could be in standby mode during the day, the scheduled tasks would wake it up, then it would go back into standby mode, etc...

Now I have to use the periodicity function, which forces me to disable the PC's standby mode...

Please help me [-o<

One last thing

Between my version tests, I restarted my PC to complete the uninstallation, and my session was blocked even though the password I typed in was correct.
Except that this lock was due to a password error.

I wonder if entering the session password to activate the task in SB doesn't cause this error... Just a hint
