Sync or copy between two OneDrive accounts

Post by Roaster »

Hi!

I just wanted to set up a new profile on SyncBack Pro v11 (latest version) to sync or copy files and folders from source Onedrive (personal) to target OneDrive account, also a personal but a different one.

Unfortunately, SBP does not offers this method. Guess, I can do this job with two profiles and temporary save the files locally, better would be, however, a direct sync.

Am I correct? SBP is not capable right now of synching from OneDrive to OneDrive?

Hello,

I had the same need.

Indeed I could not do that with SyncBack pro.

I found the solution using a Synology NAS and its CloudSync app

You create two Cloudsync accounts (Onedrive A and Onedrive C) and a shared folder C on the NAS...

And it synchronizes automatically:

A <> C <> B

And it works very well... (And also with Microsoft365 Family with 5 accounts)

Good ! I understand a NAS is not cheap... But when you love you don't count! :)

Of course you can do that, as you say in your message, by going through a computer. But with a NAS, the machine synchronizes permanently for you.

However, you cannot work on the same document as if you were on the same Onedrive account. Let me explain: If on Onedrive A and Onedrive C you open the same document and change it simultaneously, a conflict file is created on the Nas.

(Hence my post viewtopic.php?p=53070#p53070 which has remained unanswered since 2021 :))

In my situation, as another solution, I also tried to share "the entire" Onedive A with Onedrive C with "can edit" authorization. It works very well. I don't know if it meets your needs.

My message is written with Google translate... sorry if there are mistakes...

Good luck

Ömür, thanks for your reply!

I own a Synology NAS, too and already thought about using CloudSync, too. I did not try so far, but I will do since others have reported this to be a possible solution for synching OneDrive to local storage and vice versa.

My planned work flow, however, is to not to upload all of my files to my OneDrive account, but single files from different folders. I still want to have the choice what to upload or not, may be for privacy resaons and more, you know :D

CloudSync users told me to use some filters to achieve the above, hence I will try this approach anytime soon.

My initial post describes a totally differenc szeario, though and you mentioned it to be possible with your answer, thanks again.

I was in the process of migrating some files from a OneDrive account A to OneDrive account B. Not a permanent sync but a one time sync. I thought this would be an easy task with SBP without using a temporary file storage between two single migration runs: 1) OneDrive A -> local, 2) local -> OneDrive B.

Obviously SyncBack Pro is not capable of doing so.

Have a nice day,
Michael

Hello,

You can sync, backup & mirror between two different OneDrive profiles. My situation is that I have a OneDrive 'family' account and use my primary account to sync and/or mirror data on the accounts. One account is using my primary @outlook.com e-mail address & my other account is shared on the same family plan with a @comcast.net address.

I use both accounts to get extra OneDrive cloud drive space vs. having to pay for more space. I've tested this on Windows 10 & 11 Pro using SyncBack Pro v11.3.106. I've set this up using the Edge browser. I've recently gotten fiber internet in my subdivision so having symmetrical 1Gbs upload & download having more drive space more convenient & protects my data. I've been using SyncBack since v6. I've also used the backup programs Syncovery & GoodSync; but I prefer (by far) the ease, reliability and feature set of SyncBackPro. Please note I have NOT tested this with 'scheduled' backups; I run my backups un-attended as I've done extensive testing & I've been a long-time user.

To get this working; set up your PRIMARY OneDrive profiles as you want; be it sync, mirror, etc. set the options for Mirror / 2-way sync, etc. I also use groups and color-code my profiles for ease of use.

Next; It is important to make sure you log-out of the Microsoft OneDrive account portal. Open your SECONDARY e-mail account so you can copy the authorization codes, etc. when SBP asks for them. Now, log-into your Microsoft account OneDrive portal using the SECONDARY e-mail address - keep the browser tab open or in a different Window.

Go into SyncBack Pro; create a new backup / mirror / 2-way sync profile using Wizard. For me; I choose my local pc as the source
then then choose OneDrive (Personal) - NEW ACCOUNT. It is IMPORTANT that you do NOT use OneDrive (Personal) - (Use My Account) --> this is for use with your PRIMARY OneDrive account.

Follow the steps of SyncBack Pro to authorize the other e-mail account / tokens and paste those into the SyncBack profile set up.
Finish setting up your SyncBack profile options / settings. Once this is completed you can test it out. To Test; from the main SyncBack Pro application Window - Click on 'Modify' of each of your OneDrive profiles and you can see that the directories folders / files are different (if you've set this up correctly).

I have different folder & files on each OneDrive account so this allows me to use more than my 1 TB of drive space for cloud backup so I don't have to pay for extra drive space on OneDrive. I believe the above process will also work with Google Drive; though I have not tested it. I have tested backing up to Google drive and it works well but I only have the normal 15 Gb of drive space and don't pay extra for that.

One thing to make things easier for future profiles; is to color-code them and use groups. When I have to add a profile to my OneDrive set up; I typically don't use the Wizard; I 'copy' the profile associated with that OneDrive account and modify the source / destination as necessary. This is easier as you don't have to re-authorize the account tokens as the tokens / passwords are for the specific OneDrive account NOT the individual folders / files within that cloud account.

Sorry for the long post but I am detail-oriented. I hope this helps someone.

Regards,

Mike Carroll
