Backup Always Fails via Wi-Fi

SyncBackFree is the freeware version of SyncBack. It is *not* an evaluation version of SyncBackPro/SE.

Backup Always Fails via Wi-Fi

Post by otronics »

Using: SyncBackFree Version 11.3.87.0 (32-bit) (Elevated)

My Windows 11 laptop backs up daily but always fails when connected via Wi-Fi. Good signal. 5GHz connection.

If I disable Wi-Fi and back up via a wired connection, it works.

My router is a Virgin Media Super Hub 3 FYI.

Some more info when the Wi-Fi backup fails:

I get a variety of error messages each time, at least one of the below....

Error: Scan failed (121): The semaphore timeout period has expired

Error: Scan failed (64): The specified network name is no longer available (although it works fine when I access the network drive via My Computer or browser)

When either of the above is shown in the 'live error log', SyncBack will display: 'Network connection lost'. It will countdown and then re-connect.

In the final log, many files will have either one of these errors:

The Destination directory could not be checked for changes

Error - skipped

Any ideas?

I've done all the usual stuff like update wi-fi drivers, turn of any power-saving modes, installed Windows updates etc.

I have another workstation connected via ethernet. That backs up daily and always works. Clearly, there must be a Wi-Fi issue somewhere.

Thanks.

Update:

The issues above happen when "scanning destination" and/or actually trying to copy files to said destination.

I am backing up to a wired NAS.

I have disabled anti-virus and firewall. No change.

Network discovery and File and printer sharing were switched off. Both are now on. No change.

I've narrowed it down.

I have my main wireless router downstairs and an access point upstairs.

When I'm connected to the main router, it backs up with no issues.

However, when connected to the access point it spits out those errors above and it's very slow when copying any files it manages to actually copy.

Although normal internet is fast and a speed test gives 280Mbps down and 26Mbps up.

I've played around with various settings on the access point to no avail.

Any ideas?
