Help Transfer between a server SMB to a Synology Nas

Post by gingerVSpie »

The server is using tail scale to transfer files to the Synology Nas. Everything is right but I don't know why it's trying to resend everything. The size is the same

Hi,

SyncBackPro suggested recopying the files because the last modified date/time stamps on the source and destination did not match. As a result, SyncBack assumed the files were different and proposed recopying them to the destination.

Thank you.

Re: Help Transfer between a server SMB to a Synology Nas (keywords: Box.com FileZilla)

I realize that the issue I am describing below isn't directly related to gingerVSpie, the result (and display) are similar. So in case someone else has encountered what I have, I wanted to describe my experience with SyncBack Pro, Box.com and FileZilla.

This is a "problem" I encounter quite often with Box.com. I use FileZilla to copy local files to a Box.com account (I'd use SyncBack Pro, but it's massively slower than FileZilla). Almost always, FileZilla copies the files successfully, but when copying thousands of files, sometimes the timestamp on Box.com will be the uploaded timestamp and not the timestamp of the original (even though I've enabled the "Preserve timestamps of the transferred files" option in FileZilla). The files are identical, just the timestamps are different.

To make it easier for me to quickly see that the files are the same, I will then run SyncBack Pro on the same pair. Syncback Pro will then re-upload those files with the incorrect timestamp and "fix" the problem. Since SyncBack Pro is only acting on a small subset of files, the upload time isn't that long, so the total amount of time for FileZilla upload + SyncBack Pro "correction" upload is still significantly faster than if I had just used SyncBack Pro.
